During maths time this week the children had a problem to solve.
'Noah saw 12 legs walk past - what animals did he see?'
The children had some great ideas!

a giraffe, a cat and a dog - the fish and the snail went past but they had no legs!

a snake and a fish...a giraffe and a spider

3 crabs; a spider and 2 birds; and 6 birds!

a spider and a dinosaur; or 1 cat, 1 dog and 2 birds

a snake, a fish, a snail, a spider and a dog

Well done!
It was a wet day for Discovery on Friday.

The marble runway was popular

Making and creating is always popular.

We have black play dough to go with our topic about space.

The dress ups are fun.

Farming implements and pirates are fun too!

Creating a 'man made' marble run way.

Hello Families
It is a very wet and miserable day today - I hope the weather improves for our first week back to school!
I hope you have all enjoyed some good times in the holidays and are looking forward to coming back to school.
We have some great learning opportunities coming up
~ Our topic is 'Time to Explore...' As part of this topic we will have a visit from an educator from Science Alive. Our lesson will be in Room 1 and there will be 'stations' set up with activities for us to explore/examine. So we will need some parents to help at the stations. If you would like to help out please let me know. Wednesday 8th August 9.30 - 11am
~ Our storytelling story is 'Jack and the Beanstalk'. First up we have to publish our innovation stories from last term.
~ Our Junior Kapahaka children will be performing at the Art Gallery as part of 'Kids in Town' later in the term. Maria will send home a note about that closer to the time.

Macushla will now be looking after Room 8 on Tuesdays when I am on release. Nicky has accepted a position at another school with more hours. Although we may still see her around school on Fridays.
Thanks Nicky for your work with us.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday. :)

We all enjoyed Wacky Hair Day on Friday!
Some children wore red as well for Sir Pete Blake Leadership Day.

The Year 2 & 3 children had their soup together outside                                                    Rooms 9 & 10.
Most children enjoyed the soup, some even came back for seconds! Others were pleased to have their own morning tea!

Thank you to everyone who brought some vegetables for our soup.
We had an amazing selection - potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, onion, garlic, yams, swede, spring onions, kumara, celery, cauliflower, pak choy, and leeks. We looked at all the vegetables, especially those which were unfamiliar to the children.
Luckily Karen was in our class to help as four children at a time chopped, diced, peeled and sliced! We may have some aspiring masterchefs working in our class today .....

This afternoon most of the children finished their Matariki weaving and  'Manu Iti' kites.

We're going to eat our soup tomorrow!
