We will eat the soup we prepared today at buddy reading time tomorrow.

We have been preparing for Matariki.
Thank you to families who have sent a vegetable for our soup.
We will be chopping, dicing and slicing in the morning. The soup will cook all day and I will put it through my kitchen whizz so it will be smooth and delicious and ready for us to share with our buddy class on Friday. It would be helpful if the children brought a (named) mug please.

Hope to see you tomorrow evening for our Matariki Celebrations.
There will be plenty of activities for families to enjoy.

We are having another busy week.
Flinn brought his popcorn machine to show so we made .... popcorn
What a great experiment to see a yellow kernel of corn turn into a white puffy snack when it is heated!
Here is Flinn's story.
Yesterday we made popcorn.
It was yummy and it was crunchy.
It was warm and buttery, and it was yellow.
We used a popcorn machine.
I liked it because it was yummy!

                                                      Congratulations Lucia.

Lucia received her certificate from the CSM Junior Orchestra.
Lucia plays the violin in the Orchestra.

Several notes went home this week ...
~ the envelope for school photos, and
~ the swimming reminder.
The holidays will be a good time to look out the togs, towel and a bag. It is so helpful if all clothing is named please.
The children are very enthusiastic about their colouring pictures for Matariki. Children are working on them before school and during Discovery!
They will be on display in the hall on Thursday evening during our Matariki Celebrations.

Sharing the 'stuff'.

Very careful colouring

Dressing up can be fun.

On Wednesday Amie came to talk to us about Financial Literacy.
It was a fun presentation with a sensible message about spending and saving money.
Amie finished up with a role play - Flinn, Lucia and Joahne were 'going shopping' for a new scooter, helmet and bell. They had $100 in $10 notes (Amie was impressed with our skip counting) for their shopping.
I hope the children shared Amie's good ideas with families.

We have been busy preparing portfolios to share with families at learning conferences.
Keep your eye on the school newsletter so you can see when to book a time.

We did another science experiment on Friday during Discovery time - bread turns into toast when it is heated!
The children cooked their own piece and put on their own spread.

The dress  ups are always fun.

Skipping was very popular at Discovery as well!  Skipping is tricky, but the children are enthusiastic!

Happy 8th Birthday  Lucia.
We hope you have a great day!
Today we had a 'go' with the new skipping ropes.
Skipping is fun and a great skill. We will be practising a lot!

This week we welcomed Taylor to our class. We are very pleased to have another Year 2 girl!
Taylor is settling in and has made some new friends already!

Here are the last paintings for you to enjoy.
