Today we had Anne and Tania from the Christchurch City Library with their 'Travelling Road Show'.
They read two stories and the children were actively involved!
It was fun. :)

The children were very engaged at Discovery time working on their paper mache masks.
It is a very messy process - with some successes and some disasters (when the balloon pops). Nearly everyone has the first paper layer on their balloon.
The balloons jump around a bit so the children were working in pairs - one holding, one pasting and then swopping over. Some children have just been 'holding', so they will paste next time.

Sarah thinks ice cream containers would be helpful to hold the balloons steady. If any families have some spare we would be very grateful, thank you.

Sarah (our student teacher) brought the jaw bone of a mako shark to share ....
It had mean looking teeth!

Congratulations Kadin!
The school mini ball team were Runners Up in the B Grade Competition

Sarah helped us to create a picture in the style of Piet Mondrian.

Is it maths?
Or is it art?

Happy Mother's Day to all the Mums. Hopefully you liked the 'pot plan't from your child.

On Friday at Discovery time the children were very busy with their Klee inspired  faces.
This week the eyes will go on and then they will be ready for display.

The skip its continue to be popular.

We have been talking about Big Ben. (I can't remember how it started but...)
The children are very interested so we had a look at a couple of YouTube clips. We've seen inside and looked at the bells. We found out it is the largest bell that is called Big Ben and the tower is called the  Elizabeth Tower,
James was so interested he brought in this 3D image to share.

We've been having fun with our Geometry topic.
We looked at some paintings by Paul Klee. He used shapes to create faces.... 'Senecio'
So we created our own faces using rectangles/oblongs, squares, diamonds and hexagons.
Today we started to paint them. They are looking awesome.
We hope to finish them tomorrow and then display them in our cloakroom for everyone to see.
