I hope everyone enjoyed a change of routine in the holidays.
This term ....
Maths we start off learning about time- days of the week, months of the year, estimating time and using analogue and digital clocks to tell the time.
Our topic work is science based ' I Spy'.
In week 2 we will have a visit from the Science Alive team for their Forensic Fairytales lesson.
We need 3 or 4 parent helpers for this lesson as there will be activities around the room for the children  and assistance will be required. Our lesson is on Wednesday, 11th May from 9.30 - 11am.
If you are able to help please email or let me know on Monday.

A message from Jamie (the class teacher from our penpals at Woodlawn School in North Carolina, USA)

Hi Robyn and Room 8,
Thank you for the pen pal letters!  My students loved reading their letters and seeing the pictures of their friends in New Zealand!  They also loved the stickers.
Tomorrow we have our annual Heritage Festival.  I set up a NZ booth, so I will make sure to send a picture of it so the kids can see!
We are going to try our best to write you back.  We are in the final stretch of the school year, when things get super busy!  But I think we can do it.

Hope all is well!

Good-bye and Good Luck at your new school, Ruby-June
                                  We talked about ANZAC Day.

Flinn shared his Dad and Grandad's medals.

We made and ate some ANZAC biscuits.
The children thought they were easy to make.....
adult supervision would be required for  melting the butter and golden syrup and using the oven.

Here is the recipe
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup dessicated coconut
1cup plain flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
2 tablespoons golden syrup
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon water

1.   Pre heat oven to 180'C and prepare oven tray
2.   Mix the oats, flour, sugar, and coconut in a bowl
3.   Melt the butter and golden syrup
4.   Mix the baking soda and water into the golden syrup and butter
5.   Add the melted ingredients in to the dry ingredients and combine
6.   Roll into small balls
7.   Place onto oven tray
8.   Bake for 15 - 20 minutes at 180'C
9.   Remove from the oven and cool on wire racks
10. Enjoy your ANZAC biscuits.

Thank you to everyone for their hard work and support this term.

When the Firewise Team visited us they stressed the importance of children knowing their full name - first and last, and their address.

Have a look at www.chsgardens.co.nz and look at News and then April 2016.

Stories from everyone.
The children enjoyed Archie's April Fool's Day trick (we published the photos in an earlier post) so we wrote about it ....

Well happy April Fool’s Day.
What is April Fool’s Day…..
April Fool’s Day is fun and games but not after lunch because the person you did it to will pay you back.
Here’s some things you could do:
make a chip trick, a pinch and a punch for the first of the month and no return.
So there’s some things you could do.
Happy April Fool’s Day
