We hope you have noticed our plants on the porch.
They are going to be part of our Garden Display.
The children have been looking after them carefully.
Our seeds need a lot of water in the hot weather.

We planted these seeds on Friday!
The barley is the faster at the moment. Wheat and oats are not too far behind.
The grass looks very thin beside the barley.
The mystery seed continues to be a mystery.

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

We are amazed ... some of our seeds are up! There are some late starters so we will plant some more in the next few days so we are ready for the Garden Display.
Thank you to everyone who has returned the Permission Slip for our walk.

We have appreciated having Monique in our class this week. She is with us until 1st April so we are very lucky.
This week the children prepared their containers for planting AND then they planted their choice of seeds from a selection of oats, barley, wheat, peas, grass, linseed and some seed marked 'mystery'. We are hopeful that some will grow....soon. Our planting is to represent the river bank for our school garden display.
Permission notes for our walk to the Woolston Club to see the Garden Displays were sent home on Friday. It will be a real adventure for the Year 2 & 3 classes!

                                        Congratulations

We are very proud of Lucia as she has been selected to play her violin in the CSM Junior Symphony Orchestra. Well done, Lucia.

Please remember to complete the basic maths facts sheet and bring home learning books on Thursday.

Today we had a school earthquake drill.
We had planned to practise the drill one day this week. ...
The events over the weekend reminded us again how important it is to be prepared.
You will be pleased to know Room 8 managed themselves very well.

We are busy planning and thinking about our contribution to the school garden competition.
The children have decided to plant 'the river bank' so we need clean milk cartons please - one per child would be just right.
Thank you.

Saturday, February 13, 2016

I hope everyone had a pleasant (mostly) weekend.
You can rest assured that we will calmly be revisiting what to do in an earthquake tomorrow - when in class, when outside at break times etc. Your child's safety and well-being is very important to us.

This week we welcome Monique Barker from the NZ Graduate School of Education.
Monique will be with us for 7 weeks. She will be working with small groups of children as well as whole class activities. We are lucky to have an extra teacher in our class.

L is the Letter of the Week.
Remember swimming on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The basic facts sheet in children's Home Learning books needs to be completed by Thursday please.

The children were eager to hear if we had any emails from China.
We did!
Helen and Jim answered the children's questions AND sent some more photos.
We are making a scrapbook of the emails and photos and this will come home to families to share when it is finished.
People were swimming in the outside pool - even though it had ice on it!

Looks like bumper cars.

Cool playground.

Our morning started with a Mihi Whakatau to welcome the new staff and students to our school.

We are a great bunch!

On Thursday and Friday we went for our walk down to the river.
The children took clipboards and recorded what they saw.
We have discussed some of the things we could create for our Garden Display.
Hopefully the children have been sharing their ideas with families.
