I think the most exciting thing this week was the video from the City Council. We hope families and friends have been able to enjoy the clip. Sally also put it on the school Facebook page!

We've had 3325 page views of our blog this year.
The children like to see the statistics AND they do appreciate any comments.:)

Archie had his first game of basketball on Thursday evening. His team won! What a great start.

Last week we had the 'Travelling Road Show' from the Christchurch Library to visit. We enjoyed some great visual language.

Thanks so much for having us in the class yesterday. You have a lovely group of children and a really stunning school - the spring time blossom was just lovely.

We had our visit from Anna and Kirk from the City Council today.
It was an interesting experience for us.
Kirk had a microphone like the type used for TV News and the children were hopeful they would be on the News - not this time.

Congratulations Flinn on competing in the Muddy Good Fun Event at Rakaia on the weekend.
It looks like it was a lot of fun!

Good luck to Lucia today.
She is the first Room 8 person to perform in the Isaac Theatre Royal. Lucia will be playing her violin with the CSM Junior Orchestra. Ka pai, Lucia.
Congratulations to Archie on making the school basketball team. The first game is at Pioneer this week.
 Discovery Time
- we had some new equipment so there was plenty of opportunity to practise ...using kind voices, sharing, taking turns, asking to join in and using our manners.

The 'Skip I' was fun ... and a bit challenging.

The Pole Tennis gave us the opportunity to use the timer so everyone had a fair turn.

Pole tennis is fun, tricky and ...you have to keep your eye on the ball.

Some of the 'Little Garden' seedlings needed to be transplanted into the school garden.

They looked a lot smaller in the big garden!

Thanks for your help Karen.

Yeah just about everyone in Room 8 is remembering to wear their hat every day.

There is a board outside the office of the types of hats children can wear.

It is important for the children to have their hat every day for their own Health and Safety.

Thank you to the families who were able to come to our Book Launch and calendar art viewing today.
It was a special occasion. Ka pai Room 8 :)
The calendar art will still be in class for families to see.
The Home and School will be sending home the order forms later in the week.

Exciting news....
We received an email...

I am a writer for the Christchurch City Council website and we have received the lovely book you did for Mayor Lianne Dalziel. The book was just fantastic and we would like to do a story (and possibly a video), with the children who made it.

Myself and a photographer could come out to your class and meet the students, talk to them about why they wanted to do the book, and perhaps get each of them to read their page to us on video???

The City Council require all children to have signed permission from their parents/caregivers before they are photographed.
The permission form is in children's bags today. Please complete and return to Room 8 as soon as possible.

It's good to be back at school.
Congratulations to Jasmine, Lucia, Flinn and Lincoln for completing lots of Home Learning activities.
Lucia completed 9, and the others completed 7. Kei whea mai

Our 'Little Garden' is growing well.
Nearly every plant is up and some are ready to transplant into our school garden. We will do this on Friday during Discovery Time.

Remember to bring your school sunhats tomorrow. (I hope it is a fine day!)

Invitation
Families and interested friends are invited to come along to view our calendars
and
join us for our ‘Book Launch’.
When: 12th October
Time:  2:30pm
Where:  Room 8
The Little Garden is looking pretty cool.
I needed to turn the garden as the plants have started to grow in one direction - to the light!
Kaytie's thyme is up, Paige's spring onions are up and Anna's basil too. The leeks are up too, but there is no name on the label.

Phoebe's fennel has just shot up - second row from the top, second in.
I have turned the tray so the plants don't grow in one direction to the light.

Cesar's carrots are up! (second from the left in the back row)

Jasmine's broccoli  (second from bottom right) is doing well. So is Tolson's rocket on the left!
